This species is often somewhat supercolonial, and I have had experience combining colonies of this species in the past. However, no promises ;)

I'm not sure this needs a description. Formica bradleyi are one of my favourite species, and one I've wanted all my ant-keeping career. They are a desert species, and in the wild are often found nesting along prickly pear cactuses in sandy areas. In fact, they're one of the only species which only inhabits a single type of soil. The colours are super bright, and I would say the attached picture actually is a bit too dark to be accurate. According to the Kansas Entomological Society, they're even the "most beautiful species" of Formica. They're also really hardy-- I've kept a colony going for 3 generations off of byFormica Sunburst alone.

Formica bradleyi is without a doubt one of the most stunning and large species in the whole of Canada! This brightly colored ant nests in sandy soils and likes warmer temperatures up to 29 degrees Celsius with relatively low humidity at 30-60%. They're fairly rare too, and we're proud to be able to sell them here at Canada Ant Colony!

Test tube inserts are upgrades to the test tube setups provided. If purchased, they come with a dark hood to lower light levels for the colony, an insert which provides a living space, and a feeding insert to provide food for the colony.

Ungrouted inserts are a blank plastic insert which helps provide a more suitable space for the ants to grip (as opposed to glass tubes), while grouted inserts are bedded with a substrate which helps distribute humidity more evenly throughout the test tube, and helps certain ants create their cocoons more easily. Overall, grouted inserts are more comfortable for the ants.

You will NOT need an insert for colonies in test tubes, but it does help for certain species. IF you are moving the ants into a nest immediately, do NOT get a test tube insert.
