The first time I (Zach) found a Crematogaster queen in my yard, I was completely out on anything to hold her, and I ended up cupping her in my hand all the way back to the house. When I opened my palm, I saw an ant with a completely flattened abdomen, and a look of shock flew across my face. In just a few moments though, she straightened herself up and walked all the way up to my pointer finger. A year later, she was the mother of over 300 daughters Crematogaster cerasi, or the cherry acrobat ant, is unsquishable.
Crematogaster spp, or Acrobat ants, are probably some of the Canadian ants that will show you the most personality, due to the fact that they wave their abdomens around when threatened or excited. These are ants that do well with a humidity source but can fare just as well in a dry wooden setup if provided extra water sources. You will find that Crematogaster can explode in population if provided a source of heat (preferably above 25 degrees Celsius), and do especially well when fed large amounts of protein. Overall, these are extremely fast growing ants, and some of the best for beginners.
This product includes both C. lineolata and C. cerasi. Care differences are negligible
