Camponotus herculeanus is a very common species of Carpenter ant which lives mainly in the boreal forests of Canada, preferring to avoid warmer areas. It is a fast growing species of Camponotus, and is overall smaller than Camponotus pennsylvanicus though larger than Camponotus novaeborecensis.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eLike most Camponotus species, this species prefers lower humidity from 30-50% and temperatures from 23-25 degrees Celsius. Their workers range from 7 to 16mm and queens range from 13-17mm. It stumbled upon a small beetle, but is quickly runs away as a group of Acrobat Ants streams up the twig. Luckily for it, the tree benefits from any pests it eats, and provides \"nectaries\" on the base of leaves, which are glands secreting a sweet liquid to entice the ant to stay. The ant takes a sip, and returns home to it's nest in a crevice in the tree with just a few hundred other individuals. This timid species is \u003cem\u003eCamponotus nearcticus\u003c\/em\u003e, the smaller carpenter ant. \u003cem\u003eCamponotus nearcticus\u003c\/em\u003e is the ant equivalent of a small elephant or a dwarf whale.
